Sri Karak Restaurant @ Section 52, PJ

Yesterday, when we were back from my cousin's wedding, both of us were thinking where to have lunch before heading back home. Finally, we went to one of the restaurant which was introduced by "Ho ChaK" probably one or two weeks ago - Sri Karak Restaurant.

There was a strong smell of durian when we first stepped into this restaurant...haha.. That's what Sri Karak is all about - DURIAN. We want to try its famous pastry, which is Durian Bomb. It consists of creamy durian mixed with sweet potato and then deep-fried until it is crispy but meltingly soft inside. If you are a durian lover, then we are sure you will definitely like it. Somehow, my dear said it was smelly but he still finished it (have to finished it).. haha :-p

Besides Durian Bomb, Sri Karak also provides other famous dishes and pastries such as durian ABC and durian pancake. The durian ABC is served together with gula Melaka and a scoop of fresh durian ice-cream on top of it. When we mixed them, it taste like durian flavor cendol.

As for durian pancake, it is filled with fresh whipped cream and a chunk of durian. The taste was not too bad but I guess we need to do a lot of exercises after having it as it is too creamy for us.

On top of those popular pastries, we also ordered seafood noodles, "yao choi" with oyster sause and "ma po tauhu". The food are quite nice and the price are reasonable too. With all the food we had, it was just under RM50.

Deepavali in Kuala Lumpur (Low Yat, Sg Wang and Pavilion)

This year's Deepavali, we went out to browse for new phone and also jalan jalan at few of the shopping complexes in KL, including the newly opened - Pavilion. We started at Low Yat as we thought that it would be great to look look for new phone's prices first before proceeding to have lunch in Sg Wang. It was kind of crowded when we arrived at Low Yat as it was already nearly lunch time. As usual, Low Yat is packed with many shoppers who are mainly targeting consumer electronics such as IT gadgets, handphones and computers.

We made our way through to the probably 2nd floor, where it has mainly handphone stores with many different 'bargains' and prices. We had a look at quite a number of handphones and sort of decided that the Sony Ericsson K770i was kind of cool, especially the brown color (which has yet to be fully launch). So, we have to wait for the next arrival of this color.

At noon, we moved to Sg Wang rooftop to have lunch. We went to Sushi Station, which is probably the only popular restaurant at the rooftop.

We ordered green tea for 2 persons sharing, a salmon grill set and a noodle set (forgotten what are their exact names).

Green Tea Set:

Salmon Grill Set:

Noodle Set:

The food was not that tasty and nice, but overall, it was just a so so experience. Then, we moved on to the Pavilion, which is opposite KL Plaza. There were many people there, mainly family who brought along their parents/grandparents and kids to have a nice day out. We knew that the one and only J.Co Donuts and Coffee in Malaysia was opened recently in Pavilion. Since it was our first time there, we looked through the directory and located J.Co. We went there and quite surprisingly, there was a long queue at this popular donuts store. We joined the queue and waited for at least half an hour to buy only half a dozen donuts (Hehe, just to try ma). Most people would either buy one dozen or more than that.

After buying the donuts, we headed home. It was a tiring day full of good energy of walking and window shopping + shopping for donuts.

Taman Connaught Pasar Malam

Last Wednesday, we went to the famous Taman Connaught pasar malam in Cheras. It was my 1st time there and by 6pm, the traffic was already jammed up until the housing area. By 7pm, everybody seemed to be there despite the rain. We walked from the so-called starting point, which is near the park. As we stroll along, we noticed that this pasar malam is full of fried stuffs and also 'Taiwanese food'. Nevertheless, there are also a mixture of local food such as crispy tauhu bakar, mee / meehoon goreng, kuih-muih and etc.

We planned to buy different food with different styles and choose a makan place with table and chairs. So, we got the crispy tauhu bakar and then some Taiwanese fried pieces chicken (made popular by Uncle Bob).

After settling down in one place to have our dinner (together with bubble tea), we decided to continue to jalan-jalan at the pasar malam. Towards the end, we found something that probably most people will want to try to eat not because of the smell but of the taste. It was chau taufu (tauhu busuk). It started when we noticed that there was a long queue to buy some 'sort of food' but we didn't know that it was tauhu busuk. So, we approached the stall and still didn't notice anything smelly.

The board of the stall also didn't write clearly what it was selling. Then, we heard some people saying that it was tauhu busuk. So, we decided to 'locate' the smell. When we moved to the front of the stall, there were 2 people frying tauhu and it was that time when we noticed the smell. It smell like 'longkang stuffed with years of rubbish' and we wonder how come people would like it but we have no answer to that.

It was a truly experience for us to know that there are so many fans of tauhu busuk. We moved on to walk back to the 'starting point'. Along the way, we bought a piece of Taiwanese pizza for a try.

Even though the rain was not that heavy, a lot of people continued to walk and makan-makan. Probably, this is one of the truly Malaysian culture.
